The Ausangate trek is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular hiking trails in the Cusco region, offering breathtaking landscapes, a wide variety of wildlife, glaciers, and lakes in all shapes and colors. It is also one of the most challenging routes in the area, with three high passes that exceed 5,000 meters or 16,000 feet in altitude. The imposing presence of Apu Ausangate, standing at 6,380 meters or 20,926 feet, dominates the southern horizon of Cusco. As we approach this massive mountain, one cannot help but be impressed and understand why the ancient Incas held it in such high regard. During the Ausangate trek, we will also pass through local villages, where people still wear traditional clothing.
